Celebrities and Their Diamond Engagement Rings
When it comes to engagement rings, you won't see any flashier than those sported by celebrity brides-to-be. Multi-carat diamond engagement rings are mandatory in Hollywood, and it's doubtful that Angelina or Ashley would be caught dead in a plain gold band. With the stars, it's all about style.
Not that celebrity engagement rings lack substance; diamonds just happen to be the hardest substance on Earth, despite its close kinship to graphite and common charcoal. Diamonds aren't just a girl's best friend (Marilyn Monroe aside), they're one of humanity's best friends in general. They make the best drill bits and cutting tools, and can even be used for electronics -- not that the six-carat pink diamond Jennifer Lopez sported in one of her recent engagement rings would ever be used for such a lowly purpose. No, these gemological treasures are to be seen and nowhere can they be better seen than in high-quality celebrity engagement rings.
Is bigger really better? It seems that most celebrities think J. Lo's pink behemoth looks positively puny compared to Catherine Zeta-Jones' 10-carat antique-style marquis diamond engagement ring. And how about the 11.5-carat engagement ring Quentin Richardson slipped onto the finger of Brandy, the singer best known for her TV role as Moesha? Can you say "bling"? But even those engagement rings pale in comparison to Donald Trump's marry-me offering to his current fiancée, Melania Knauss: a ring with a 13-carat emerald-cut wonder of a diamond.
Do keep in mind, however, that you can't necessarily buy her love. The pink diamond engagement ring once on J. Lo's left hand was soon traded in for an equally stunning seven-plus carat engagement ring from Marc Anthony -- and then accessorized with a wedding ring. Obviously, it's not just the size of the diamond on the engagement ring that counts (you guys can breath a collective sigh of relief now).
In fact, bigger isn't always the prescription for celebrity engagement rings -- though of course the celebrity definition of "big" may differ from your's and mine. To most of us, a nice one-carat diamond may seem big indeed but as with Texas, everything's bigger in the limelight. That's to be expected of celebrities: they're larger than life, so their diamond engagement rings should be too. Ashley Judd seems perfectly happy with her mere 3-carat diamond engagement ring from racer Dario Franchitti, while supermodel Heidi Klum is quite proud of her canary-yellow sparkler from soulful singer Seal. Poor Tori Spelling, rich-kid star of '90s TV show Beverly Hills 90210, has to make do with a mere 1.5 carat diamond engagement ring.
Meanwhile, pop diva Britney Spears took charge of her own engagement ring needs. Not only did she pop the question to clueless beau Kevin Federline, she picked her own engagement ring, featuring a 4-carat cushion cut diamond accompanied by smaller pave-cut diamonds. Nowadays when the term "rocks" is used in reference to this singer, it might be hard to decide if it's her music or her diamond engagement ring that's the topic of conversation.
